Recreational League
The Stanwood Camano Youth Soccer Club follows the guidelines for 'Small Sided' soccer as set forth by the Washington State Youth Soccer Association. Depending on the age division, the team's maximum roster size ranges from 9 to 18. The reduced roster size for teams with players age 8 to 12 allows for a greater opportunity to 'be involved', both from the playing time and the individual coach attention.
From the coaches perspective, the smaller teams are easier to manage and provide a better opportunity to focus on skill development.
This is an opportunity to get to know the fundamentals of the game and have fun!
Practices
Rec Coaches are encouraged to conduct practices twice a week for the duration of an hour to 90 minutes. The practice location for a Rec team is determined by the coach. As our coaches are volunteers, we give them the opportunity to set the time and location to something that is beneficial for all.
Uniforms & Equipment
As part of the registration fee, each player will receive a jersey, shorts and socks. Shin guards are required and cleats are optional, but recommended. Coaches will have access to balls and cones, however it is recommended that each player have their own size appropriate ball (U9-U12 use Size 4, U13 and up use Size 5)
Games
Teams typically play a 10 game season with the first game starting the weekend after Labor Day. Games are on Saturday and/or Sundays. Alternate times and locations can be agreed upon between the coaches on a game by game basis and as space permits.
